Restaurants Open, Close, Face Fines Across Cities
Food-service news across several cities ranges from new community-minded ventures to restaurant closures and safety enforcement. In Portree, Àraich is being developed as a café, wholefood shop, teaching kitchen and events venue, building on founder John Coghill’s effort to make nutritious food more accessible. Baltimore’s walk-up dining scene includes six spots serving items such as wine, coffee, baked goods and pizza through street-facing windows. Jacksonville welcomed the European-inspired wine and small-plates bar The Huguenot, while the original Woody’s Bar-B-Q closed temporarily as its owner plans a relocation; Metro Vancouver also saw multiple restaurant and café closures, including several Starbucks locations. In Birmingham, food-safety cases led to substantial fines for one business and temporary closure orders for three Arcadian Food Court traders after rodent and cockroach problems were found.
