Rodriguez voices frustration after Oklahoma State loss
West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said the Mountaineers’ defensive failures in their loss to Oklahoma State stemmed from poor execution, ineffective adjustments and coverage mistakes that allowed the opposing quarterback time and space; he said coaches must find ways to put players in better positions and correct the problems quickly. He acknowledged the team also needed to sustain its offense, which struggled to capitalize on long drives, and said player evaluations and position adjustments are ongoing. After growing frustrated with repeated questions about the loss on his radio show, Rodriguez said the team had to turn its attention to Iowa State, whose offense presents a different challenge with varied personnel and formations. He also said West Virginia is preparing for Iowa State’s grass field and that Armoni Weaver-Bomar’s availability is uncertain because of a finger injury.
