Rubio declines comment on Guilfoyle allegations
Secretary of State Marco Rubio declined to address reports that Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle sought $100,000 from a Trump-supporting donor before her confirmation hearing in exchange for access to administration officials. Rubio said he knew of the Wall Street Journal’s reporting but could not vouch for its accuracy, and praised the U.S. Embassy in Greece and Guilfoyle’s work while saying Greece was not the place to discuss the allegations. The Journal has also reported that Guilfoyle suggested the United States could undermine Greece’s government; Guilfoyle has disputed the reporting. Senior Democrats in Congress have called for an investigation, and one said Guilfoyle should be removed if the allegations are accurate, but Rubio did not say whether he would initiate a review.
