San Antonio Approves SAWS Hikes Up to 29%
San Antonio City Council approved a four-year series of San Antonio Water System rate increases, with hikes reaching as much as 29% by 2030 and the average residential bill projected to rise roughly $13 to $17. The increases are intended to fund major system improvements and address long-term infrastructure needs, while some planned projects were delayed to limit the immediate rate burden. District 9 Councilwoman Misty Spears voted no, arguing that residents should not face years of increases without stronger transparency, public engagement, and year-by-year accountability for spending and results. District 6 Councilmember Ric Galvan supported the plan while calling for measurable improvements and greater attention to recycled-water infrastructure and the effects of data-center growth.
