Shawn Fain Reelected UAW President for Four Years
United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain won reelection to a second four-year term, taking more than two-thirds of the vote and defeating five challengers, including Vice President Rich Boyer. The result is widely seen as an endorsement of Fain’s confrontational approach to bargaining and organizing, including the 2023 Stand-Up Strike against the Detroit Three and campaigns to expand union membership. His United UAW slate was also headed for a sweeping win in union leadership races. Turnout was low, at roughly 10% of active and retired members, and final results remain subject to official confirmation. Fain has pledged to pursue pensions and retiree health care in negotiations with the Detroit automakers when contracts expire in 2028.
