Silverchair has ruled out reuniting for the October 4 NRL Grand Final, despite calls for the Newcastle band to perform after the Knights reached the final. The band’s members said they were backing their hometown team but were too rusty to take the stage; they have not performed together for years. Tones and I, who was approached about the pregame show, is also unavailable, leaving the entertainment lineup uncertain. NRL chairman Peter V’landys has suggested spending on entertainment could instead support grassroots rugby league, though he later hinted there would be a surprise at the event.
