Social Work Initiatives Build Community Support
At UNC Greensboro, Associate Professor Fran Pearson has spent nearly two decades leading a social work education initiative, drawing on experience in nursing and disability advocacy to prepare students and build community partnerships; she emphasizes relationship-building as central to effective practice. Gloucestershire County Council says investments in staff, supportive leadership and innovation have helped strengthen its children’s social work service, which received an overall “good” Ofsted rating in 2025, with leadership and support for children in care rated “outstanding.” A Stony Brook social work intern is offering confidential guidance and referrals to library patrons on issues including housing, employment, benefits, mental health and domestic abuse, while clarifying that she is not a therapist. The University of Texas at Arlington School of Social Work is inviting faculty and staff to join a wellness initiative that includes a team 100-mile rucking goal to support Stop Soldier Suicide. UTA is also hosting an information session for prospective MSW students covering program concentrations, career paths, admissions and faculty expertise.
