South Korea sentences yakuza in record marijuana haul
A South Korean court sentenced a Korean resident of Japan and former Kudo-kai yakuza member to 10 years in prison for helping arrange the import of 636 kilograms of marijuana from Thailand, a record seizure that investigators said was intended partly for distribution in South Korea and partly for shipment to Japan. In Washington state, a Yakima gang member received 12 years in federal prison and eight years of supervised release for distributing fentanyl, including pills and powder, as part of an operation prosecutors said he was expanding into Montana. In Bermuda, a man who was 17 when he brought nearly 17 kilograms of cannabis resin from Britain was sentenced to six years in prison; the judge cited his age and the delay before the case reached court when distinguishing his case from others.
