Spike Lee restrained after fan questions him about Palestine at Yankee Stadium
Filmmaker Spike Lee was restrained by stadium staff during a pregame confrontation with a fan in Yankee Stadium's Legends Suite dining area on Wednesday, September 30, before Game 2 of the Yankees–Red Sox wild-card series. Video shared by Fox Sports reporter Andy Slater shows Lee visibly upset and shouting, "Why'd you come over to me?" as people intervene. A man repeatedly tells someone, "You've gotta go. You've gotta go." The clip shows no punches. The fan was escorted out. Lee had reportedly been taking selfies with other fans beforehand and stayed for the game, which the Yankees won 9-2. What prompted the exchange is contested. Witnesses cited by Slater said the fan filmed Lee while he ate and asked how he felt about Palestine. The New York Post reported a person requesting a selfie allegedly asked Lee to say "F**k Palestine." Reports said Lee stood up and looked for security before staff held him back. A source called the individual "absolutely wrong" and said the person "ruined our f**king meal." The video alone does not establish how the confrontation began. Lee's representatives and the Yankees did not immediately respond to comment requests, according to Complex.
