David Silva Returns to Football in Hong Kong
David Silva, 40, has signed a short-term deal with newly promoted Hong Kong Premier League side Supreme Sha Tin after retiring in 2023 with an ACL tear at Real Sociedad. The club announced on Instagram: "Yo! Absolute madness! We are officially announcing that the legendary Spanish No. 21 midfielder, David Silva, has officially joined Supreme Sha Tin!" It said he will settle in, link up with squad training, and build up to peak match fitness before making his pitch debut. Silva said: "I'm so excited to go to Hong Kong and enjoy the local culture, the food in Sha Tin and, of course, football in Hong Kong." CONTESTED: None found in the record. Silva won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships with Spain (125 caps) and four Premier League titles across a decade at Manchester City, where a statue of him stands outside the Etihad. Sha Tin, managed by English coach Tom Ballantyne and owned by Jim Wong Chi-chuen, sit eighth after four matches and host Hong Kong Football Club on October 18 at Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground. How soon he plays depends on fitness.
