Students in Scotland, Arkansas Contact ISS Astronauts
Students in Scotland and Arkansas recently used the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station program to speak live with Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk during brief windows when the station passed overhead. At Wick High School in Scotland, pupils asked about astronaut training, daily life in space, food and what movies get wrong; Kutryk said even routine tasks are difficult and described seeing Earth as extraordinary. In Jonesboro, Arkansas, students at University Heights School of Medical Arts asked Kutryk about his career and life aboard the station, with the contact supported by a yearlong student-led effort and livestream. The calls offered students a firsthand connection to spaceflight and encouraged interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
