Study Finds AI Misses Psoriasis in Darker Skin
A study of 11 AI systems found they struggled to identify psoriasis in people with darker skin: even the best models were only 25% accurate across 12 clinical images, and four images were never correctly diagnosed. Experts also cautioned that psoriasis appearing for the first time in older adults warrants careful diagnosis, while saying age alone should not lower treatment goals; they noted biologics can offer effective treatment with few drug interactions, an advantage for patients managing multiple prescriptions. Separately, a study of adults with psoriasis and obesity found that adding the weight-loss drug Zepbound to Taltz led to better skin clearance and weight loss at 36 weeks than Taltz alone, alongside broader changes in immune and metabolic markers. The combination’s results are promising, but detailed findings have not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
