Survey Finds 55% of U.S. Workers Burned Out
Workplace burnout is more than ordinary fatigue: it develops from chronic stress and can leave workers exhausted, detached and less effective. Heavy workloads, little control, unclear expectations and inadequate support can contribute, while time off may offer only temporary relief if workplace conditions remain unchanged. A November 2025 survey cited in the articles found that 55% of U.S. workers reported burnout, and burned-out employees were nearly three times as likely to say they planned to leave their jobs within a year. The articles recommend combining personal boundaries with organizational changes such as manageable workloads, clear priorities and stronger manager support. A Massachusetts Starbucks barista’s account of understaffing and added demands illustrates how seemingly small tasks can intensify pressure on already strained workers.
