Three Killed in Monterey County Head-On Crash

Three young people were killed in a head-on collision Sunday night on Abbott Street south of Salinas in Monterey County. Authorities identified them as 19-year-old Abigail Tinoco of Downey, a UCLA student, and 18-year-olds Sebastian Burgos of Downey, who had recently started at UC Santa Cruz, and Noah Trevino of Soledad. Investigators say a northbound Honda CR-V crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Nissan Altima; the reason remains unknown. The drivers and one other passenger survived with major injuries and were taken to a hospital. Authorities said alcohol and drugs were not factors, and whether speed contributed remains undetermined as the investigation continues.
