Three Rice Players Reach ITA Texas Main Draw

Rice women’s tennis opened the ITA Texas Regional in Waco by sending three players into the main singles draw: Fernanda Martinez and Josephine Kunz won two matches apiece, while Francesca Maguina advanced after her opponent retired. Daniela Chica also won her opening match but was eliminated in her next round. On Friday, the Owls earned four singles victories and advanced two doubles teams to the round of 16, with another doubles pair winning its opener before being knocked out. Rice’s competition at the regional is scheduled to continue through Oct. 13.
