Three Southern Fairs Open With Dinosaur Fun and Free Biscuits

Several regional fairs are opening this week, offering carnival rides, food, entertainment and community events. The Wilkes Agricultural Fair in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, runs Wednesday through Saturday, with more than 25 rides, agricultural exhibits and new dinosaur-themed entertainment. Mississippi’s State Fair in Jackson runs Oct. 8-18 under the theme “Let Freedom Ring,” with an opening ceremony and parade, more than 100 food options and a brisket biscuit offered free to veterans and active-duty military members. The Alabama National Fair in Montgomery also runs Oct. 8-18, following a Wednesday food-tasting preview; proceeds support the Montgomery Kiwanis Club and local nonprofits.
