Train Shows, Shops, Museums Serve U.S. Hobbyists
Train enthusiasts gathered in West Bend, Wisconsin, for the Kettle Moraine Ballast Scorchers’ annual show, which has grown to more than 150 tables and seven layouts and draws both longtime collectors and families discovering the hobby. A family-run California model-train shop, founded by Gary Keck after he rekindled his childhood interest while raising children, has served hobbyists since 1985. Railroad history is also on display at the Kentucky Railway Museum in New Haven and the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, where visitors can see historic locomotives and rail equipment up close in settings that preserve the region’s rail heritage.
