Former NBA stars Dennis Rodman and Enes Kanter Freedom have President Donald Trump’s permission to pursue careers in the WNBA.
They will break “every record in the history of women’s sports,” Trump said, vowing the two will receive a “full pardon.”
Trump made the vow as he addressed supporters in a Durant, Oklahoma, rally Thursday night. Both Rodman and Kantor Freedom were in attendance.
Trump touted Rodman’s career, saying, “You’re a five-time NBA champion, Dennis. Man oh man, that’s good.”
“So [Rodman and Kanter Freedom], they are good and they have an exemption. I’m giving them a full pardon that they can go into women’s sports anytime they want. And I guarantee — he’s giving me a Thunder jacket — and I guarantee you when they do, they will break, even though they’re slightly older — although Freedom looks like he’s pretty young — they will break every record in the history of women’s sports,” he added.
Rodman is a friend of Trump’s and once credited himself for helping to set up a historic meeting between Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un in 2018.
Rodman has never expressed interest in playing in the WNBA.
Kanter Freedom declared for the league’s draft in August as part of his campaign against the WNBA over how it approaches transgender issues.
