Two Die After Fire Breaks Out on Black Sea Cargo Ship
Two people died and 11 crew members were rescued after a fire aboard the cargo ship Royad Mammadov in the Black Sea outside Romania's territorial waters, Romanian authorities said on Monday. Romania's interior ministry said rescue operations were launched and 11 crew were brought to safety. The Naval Authority identified the ship and said the incident involved a fire on board. Authorities described the vessel as sinking or as having sunk. The ship flies the flag of St Kitts and Nevis, is a general cargo ship built in 2006 with IMO number 9356969, and was headed to Ravenna, Italy. Romanian media reported it was Turkish-owned and carrying grain, and that the incident occurred near an oil platform operated by OMV Petrom. The cause of the fire and further crew details were not immediately available. Rated coverage was limited to one left-leaning outlet; no center- or right-rated headlines appear in the record.
