Two universities report seven sexual assault allegations
The University of Oregon reported five sexual assaults on or near campus during the first week of classes; the incidents are not believed to be connected and are under investigation by the university and Eugene police. Oregon lawmakers called on colleges to strengthen their response and support for survivors, while noting that the reports alone do not establish a change in the frequency of sexual violence. Oregon’s Campus Survivors Act provides affected students access to advocacy, medical care and counseling. Separately, the University of Texas at Arlington reported two alleged assaults in the same residence hall in mid-September, notifying the campus community about three weeks later. UTA said it is supporting those affected, has no known ongoing threat to the broader campus and is investigating; reporting said the student who disclosed the incidents had not filed a formal police report or identified the alleged offender.
