Two Zoos Welcome Squirrel Monkey Infants

The San Diego Zoo welcomed a Guianan squirrel monkey on Aug. 25, 2026. The infant’s sex is not yet known and it is growing stronger while clinging to its mother, Rocket, and learning to communicate with the troop. Native to northern South America, Guianan squirrel monkeys are carried and cared for by their mothers and other females, typically beginning to explore independently at about two months old. Separately, Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World in Shropshire announced a squirrel monkey birth after monitoring the youngster’s progress over the summer; the baby is now visible with its family, and its sex is also unknown.
