UK Warns Iran Over Threats on British Soil
In July, Britain banned support for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and an affiliated group after a series of antisemitic attacks, using new legal powers targeting state-backed proxies. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. A UK Foreign Office statement said Miliband told him Britain "will not tolerate any intimidation, threats, or hostile activity on British soil," reaffirmed determination to counter Iran-linked threats including attacks on Jews in Britain, and outlined measures taken in response. The ministers also discussed the Middle East war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The UK National Cyber Security Centre reported Iranian state-linked actors used spyware in phishing on WhatsApp and Telegram. The BBC reported Miliband urged de-escalation and diplomacy and that they discussed a British couple detained in Iran. Accounts are dated around September 25, 2026. CONTESTED Iran has previously denied using proxies. Ajel and Independent Journal Review name the spyware ChiselBreak; Cyprus Inform names it CHOSEN BRICK. The Foreign Office statement did not specify Araghchi's response.
