Flight Attendants Union Warns Trump Arch Could Endanger Airport Flights
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, representing about 55,000 flight attendants, says President Donald Trump’s proposed 250-foot arch near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport could raise safety concerns along aircraft approach paths. Union President Sara Nelson argues the airport is already under strain and that plans to equip the structure to support drones, snipers and ammunition heighten the risks, particularly following the deadly January 2025 midair collision near the airport. The FAA previously determined the arch would not be a hazard to air navigation if marked for visibility, but that assessment came before Trump announced its potential military use. The proposal has also drawn opposition from veterans, lawmakers and preservation advocates, and a lawsuit challenges whether it can proceed without congressional approval.
