Union Says CMMC Nurse Reinstated Amid Labor Dispute

One nurse fired from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston has been reinstated and is expected to return to work this week, according to the nurses’ union. The union is calling on Prime Healthcare, which owns the hospital, to reinstate the other nurses who were fired or suspended after staff organized and voted overwhelmingly to unionize. Nurses and supporters say the discipline was retaliation for union activity and patient advocacy; Prime says the employment actions were based on violations of hospital policies and patient-safety standards. The union says it will continue challenging the remaining disciplinary actions.
