Unopposed Redding Clerk Race Omitted From Sample Ballot
Redding’s November ballot is set to feature a City Council contest with three seats open and nine candidates, while appointed City Clerk Sharlene Tipton is running unopposed. The clerk race was expected to appear on the ballot but is missing from sample ballots, despite state law generally requiring unopposed candidates to be listed unless they were appointed to the seat at least 75 days before the election; the effect of the omission remains unclear. Council candidate Elise Ramirez Sloan has emphasized community involvement and transparency, criticizing what she sees as closed-door decision-making by the current council. Civil engineer Russ Wenham has highlighted his decades of experience and priorities including city finances, public safety, infrastructure and jobs. The Redding Chamber of Commerce endorsed Wenham and Christina Prosperi after evaluating candidates on issues including economic development, public safety and fiscal responsibility.
