Vance Warns Iran Over Nuclear Ambitions
Vice President JD Vance, campaigning in Alaska for Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, said Iran’s nuclear program had been destroyed and warned Tehran against trying to rebuild it. He accused Iran of attacking commercial shipping to pressure the United States and the global economy, but said the attacks had not halted oil and gas flows and were causing greater harm to Iran itself. Vance said decisions about any renewed U.S. military strikes rest with President Trump, and argued that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is also important to deter wider regional proliferation. However, international inspectors have lacked physical access to verify the condition of Iran’s buried uranium stockpiles since mid-2025, leaving uncertainty about what remains.
