Walmart Opens 900,000-Square-Foot West Coast Fulfillment Hub
Walmart opened a 900,000-square-foot next-generation fulfillment center in Stockton, California, its fifth such facility, to expand capacity and speed deliveries for West Coast customers and Marketplace sellers. The center uses automated, high-density storage and retrieval technology to bring products to workers and reduce the traditional 12-step fulfillment process to five steps; Walmart says the systems improve efficiency while associates continue handling tasks such as quality checks and packing. The facility is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs and forms part of Walmart’s broader investment in supply-chain automation and faster shipping.
