Washington Post names Alex Wallace COO
The Washington Post on October 8, 2026 named media executive Alex Wallace chief operating officer. She starts October 19 and will work with CEO and publisher Jeff D'Onofrio to align teams and track performance against business goals. Wallace was EVP and head of media and content at Yahoo, overseeing Yahoo News, Sports, Entertainment, Finance and TechCrunch, and earlier held senior roles at Verizon Media, NBC News and CBS News; she launched Wallace Advisory in June 2022 with clients including the Post. D'Onofrio said her career shows moving one step ahead in a changing news ecosystem and that her business acumen and digital media fluency will help the Post lead in its next chapter, and in a staff memo called her the ideal addition to advance shared business goals without compromising journalistic independence and editorial integrity. The company said in September it expects to end 2026 on its closest path to profitability in five years; it has cited more than 300,000 subscriptions sold and a 53% year-over-year rise in programmatic ad revenue. The hire follows Will Lewis's February resignation after layoffs of more than 300 journalists and cuts to sports and books, D'Onofrio's permanent CEO appointment about a month earlier, and the prior week's inaugural impact report and Relentless campaign.
