Flood and Beach Hazards Span Carolinas, California
The National Weather Service issued coastal flood advisories Tuesday for parts of southeastern North Carolina and the Myrtle Beach area, with periods extending from late afternoon into the evening; flooding, road closures and hazards near the water are possible. A separate flood watch covers coastal counties and parts of western Clay and Putnam through 8 p.m., with locally heavy rain that could bring 3–4 inches, river flooding and beach erosion. Beach statements also warn of strong currents and a moderate rip-current risk along parts of the Carolinas. In Southern California, beach hazard statements remain in effect through Friday night for coastal areas including Orange, San Diego, Los Angeles and Ventura counties and nearby islands; surf of 3–6 feet and high tides could cause rip currents, hazardous waves, minor coastal flooding and erosion. The NWS advises avoiding floodwaters and flooded roads, seeking higher ground when needed, and staying out of hazardous ocean conditions or near staffed lifeguard towers.
