Colorado Springs Leaders Discuss Space Command Move
More than 90 civic and business leaders from Colorado Springs visited Huntsville for a three-day meeting on cooperation in space operations, missile defense and national security as U.S. Space Command’s headquarters moves to Redstone Arsenal. Gen. Stephen Whiting and the leaders emphasized the cities’ shared contractors, workforce pipelines and complementary expertise, while Colorado Springs leaders said the city would remain a major national security center with key military missions and defense operations. The relocation, announced by President Donald Trump in 2025, remains controversial and has prompted a lawsuit by Colorado state leaders. More than 150 personnel are at Redstone, with about 200 expected by year’s end and half of headquarters staff projected there by the end of 2028. The leaders also discussed how both cities could support Golden Dome, a proposed layered defense against missile and other aerial threats; a permanent joint operations center is planned at Redstone, with groundbreaking targeted for next year.
