Detroit Mail Carrier Assaulted; Four Taken Into Custody

A U.S. mail carrier was attacked Wednesday evening near Joann Street and 8 Mile on Detroit’s east side. Witnesses reported that a group beat him and one person fired a gun; although early reports described a gunshot wound, a later account said he was not shot and was hospitalized with a head laceration. He is expected to recover. Detroit police took three adults and one juvenile into custody and recovered a firearm. Postal inspectors and other agencies are assisting with the investigation.
