Three Hikers Die in Separate Mountain Incidents
Three hikers died in separate mountain incidents: 64-year-old Richard Chateauneuf of Massachusetts was found unresponsive on New Hampshire’s West Rattlesnake Mountain on Oct. 3, and officials believe he likely died of natural causes after becoming separated from his group. In Montana, 20-year-old Callum Cook died after falling more than 200 feet on Blackmore Mountain; an overnight search-and-rescue operation recovered him and assisted his hiking companion. Kalem Peter Kazarian, a 52-year-old Fresno-area home builder and former HGTV guest, was found dead in the Mount Whitney area, but authorities have not established the cause or circumstances, and the National Park Service is investigating. New Hampshire Fish and Game urged hikers to prepare with essential supplies before entering the wilderness.
