Zoos Welcome Red Panda Cubs, Tamandua Pup
Chattanooga Zoo’s red panda cub Masala, born July 6, is thriving after delayed implantation kept her mother’s pregnancy undetected despite multiple tests. The cub weighed about 4 ounces at birth and had grown to more than 2 pounds by October; she can be seen in the zoo’s habitat, with a livestream available when she is in her nest box. Masala’s father, Avi, died earlier this year, and the zoo plans a public gender-reveal event. Separately, Buffalo Zoo’s two red panda cubs, born June 10, have begun making limited appearances in their outdoor habitat with their mother after spending their first months developing behind the scenes.
