Anthony Volpe appeared to hit a game-tying, two-run homer for the Yankees against the Rays in Game 3 of the American League Division Series, but replay overturned the home-run call after a fan reached over the left-field wall and touched the ball. Officials determined the ball would not have cleared the fence and Rays left fielder Victor Mesa Jr. would not have caught it, so Volpe was awarded an RBI double and the runner from first scored, cutting Tampa Bay’s lead to 4-3. Rays reliever Griffin Jax then struck out Spencer Jones to end the inning. Tampa Bay entered the game leading the series 2-0 and was seeking a sweep, while New York was trying to stay alive.
