Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has become more popular with Republicans in Pennsylvania than with Democrats, according to a new poll.
His surge in popularity with the GOP follows his virtual appearance at the GOP’s midterm convention in September.
According to the Quinnipiac University poll, which was released Wednesday, 72% of Pennsylvania Republicans held a favorable opinion on Fetterman. Just 19% viewed the senator negatively and 7% said they had not heard enough about him.
On the Democratic side in the Keystone State, only 13% have a favorable opinion on him, while 69% do not have a favorable opinion; 15% have not heard enough about him.
Among Pennsylvania independents, 27% held a favorable opinion of Fetterman, 49% had an unfavorable opinion, and 23% had not heard enough about him.
While Fetterman voted in line with the Democratic caucus 90% of the time, he voted with Republicans on such issues as the Senate war powers resolution.
His voting, as well as his appearance at the midterm convention, has caused many to question Fetterman’s party loyalty.
The turn towards unpopularity has also affected GOP Sen. Dave McCormick (Pa.).
McCormick is less popular among Pennsylvania Republicans compared to Fetterman — 67% felt favorably about McCormick in Wednesday’s poll, 13% do not have a favorable opinion, and 20% did not know enough about him.
