California State Workers Plan Historic One-Day Strike
SEIU Local 1000, which represents about 100,000 California state employees, says it plans a one-day strike Oct. 21 after 96% of voting members authorized a walkout—the first statewide strike in the union’s history. The union is seeking better pay, health benefits and telework protections and accuses the state of bargaining in bad faith; California officials say they remain ready to negotiate and have disputed the union’s account of the stalled talks.
