Miami Voters Decide Future of Marine Stadium
Miami voters will decide whether to allow a private partnership to renovate the historic Miami Marine Stadium, a midcentury Brutalist icon that has been closed since Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and remains fenced off and graffitied. The venue, which hosted Elvis Presley, Gloria Estefan, and Jimmy Buffett, was designed by Cuban refugee Hilario Candela and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with supporters arguing the vote could restore its former glory and public significance.
