About John Noble
John Noble was an English pirate or sea dog who led a maritime expedition in 1574 against Spanish merchant shipping in the Mosquito Gulf, off the western Caribbean coast of Veraguas, in what is now Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. At first, the captain had some success in amassing a sizeable booty out of Escudo de Veraguas Isle in early June, but was eventually captured by the Spanish later that month. Noble and his crew were charged and convicted of piracy, the sentence for which was death. The captain was thus executed during a public hanging in Nombre de Dios by September 1574.
