Arizona Man Pleads Guilty in Hiker’s 15-Stab Murder
Zion Teasley pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2023 killing of Lauren Heike, who was stabbed 15 times while hiking alone on a Phoenix trail. Investigators linked Teasley to the attack through DNA found on Heike’s shoe and surveillance footage showing him following her and fleeing the scene. Under the plea agreement, he avoids the death penalty and is expected to receive life in prison. Heike’s family said the agreement spared them the trauma of a trial and brought relief that Teasley would not be released. Authorities have said they believe the attack was random, but their investigation into that question was not concluded.
