Oscar-Winning Actress Eva Marie Saint Dies at 102
Eva Marie Saint died of natural causes at 102 on Oct. 6, 2026, at her Los Angeles home, the oldest living Academy Award winner. Born July 4, 1924, in Newark, New Jersey, she won the 1955 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her debut in Elia Kazan's On the Waterfront opposite Marlon Brando; that film won eight Oscars from 12 nominations. Accepting from Conrad Nagel while nine months pregnant, she said "I may have the baby right here" and gave birth two days later. Three weeks later she started Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest as Eve Kendall opposite Cary Grant; Hitchcock told her to lower her voice, avoid her hands, and look into Grant's eyes. She presented an award at the 2018 Oscars with daughter Laurette. She began as an NBC page with Campus Hoopla and stage work in The Trip to Bountiful opposite Lillian Gish, won a 1990 Emmy for People Like Us, and took later roles on Moonlighting and The Legend of Korra. She said she turned work down for her children and did not want to be a superstar. Married to Jeffrey Hayden 65 years until 2016, she is survived by two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Bethan Moss reported it for The US Sun. Contested: none identified in record.
