Inspectors Find Food Safety Violations Across Kansas, Pennsylvania
Recent food-safety inspections in Kansas and several Pennsylvania counties found violations ranging from pests and spoiled food to poor cleaning, unsafe food storage and inadequate temperature controls. In Sedgwick County, nine businesses failed inspections from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, including reports of cockroaches and improperly stored or outdated food. Pennsylvania inspectors cited heavily soiled equipment and surfaces in York County, and Northampton County findings included food held below required temperatures, raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat food and gaps that could allow pests inside. Other York County findings included dead and live rodents, bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food and improper storage, while Lancaster County inspectors noted allergen-labeling, sanitation and refrigeration concerns. Some violations were corrected during inspections; businesses that fail are generally reinspected, and Kansas says temporary closures are rare.
