Iowa sues ADI over undisclosed risks from Chinese cameras

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has sued ADI Global Distribution, alleging it misled consumers by selling surveillance cameras made by Chinese companies Hikvision and Dahua without disclosing their manufacturers or their presence on U.S. national-security risk lists. The lawsuit alleges ADI sometimes changed camera labels and failed to disclose security concerns, despite promoting its products as solutions that keep data on customers’ local networks. Bird says vulnerabilities in the cameras could expose sensitive images and location data to hackers or foreign actors, including Chinese intelligence; the case seeks relief for Iowa consumers and an end to the alleged deceptive practices.
