Lawsuit alleges funeral home showed wrong body
Iris Gordon is suing Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Horry County, South Carolina, alleging that her family arrived for her 87-year-old mother Iris Evans’ open-casket viewing and found an unidentified person in the casket wearing Evans’ clothing. The lawsuit says the funeral home acknowledged the mistake and held a second viewing later that day, with Evans then correctly placed in the casket. Gordon alleges breach of contract, negligence and emotional distress, and says the incident caused lasting psychological harm. She seeks reimbursement of about $13,800 in funeral costs along with other damages; the funeral home did not provide comment to several outlets, while one report said its owner described a settlement as pending.
