Police Seek Stolen Native-Made Bison Sculpture in Pueblo
A metal bison sculpture created by Native youth from Denver was stolen along with its trailer overnight from a hotel parking lot in Pueblo, where it had stopped for an educational program at the El Pueblo History Museum. The sculpture was part of the Bison Resilience Project and had toured Denver, Boulder and Colorado Springs; its design and purpose reflect the bison’s near-extinction and resurgence, as well as its cultural significance to Native communities. Pueblo police say surveillance video shows a white short-bed pickup taking the trailer, which has Colorado plate EUX-T06, and are asking the public to help locate the artwork. The youth say recovering it would mean a great deal to them.
