Major road closures expected across three states

The Hamilton Avenue bridge over Interstate 65 near downtown Nashville will be demolished and replaced after inspectors found damage to its deck. Drivers should expect intermittent overnight lane closures beginning Oct. 8, including a brief full closure of southbound I-65 around midnight to remove signs. Both directions of I-65 are scheduled to close for demolition beginning Oct. 16, with the shutdown expected to last until the morning of Oct. 19; additional overnight closures will follow as crews build the replacement bridge. Motorists can use Chestnut Street or Wedgewood Avenue to cross I-65, while interstate detours will route traffic via I-40, I-440 and I-24. The project is expected to be completed in December.
