Portland I-5 Southbound Set to Reopen Tonight
The Oregon Department of Transportation says southbound I-5 through Portland’s Rose Quarter will begin reopening at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, after construction finished more than a week ahead of schedule. The five-week project repaired and reinforced the freeway, replaced bridge joints and repaved sections, including an elevated structure near the Moda Center. Most lanes are expected to reopen by midday Thursday, though crews will continue restriping and removing equipment, with some ramps and lane connections temporarily closed. ODOT credited favorable weather and travelers adjusting their routes and schedules for helping the work finish early and limiting congestion.
