Missing Yuba City Teen Rescued From Burning Crash

A 17-year-old reported missing from Yuba City was found in Kern County after investigators used license plate reader data to locate a vehicle carrying her and Cameron Childers, a 26-year-old Texas man she had been communicating with. Police say Childers fled when officers tried to stop him, leading to a pursuit through the Kern River Canyon; after CHP deployed spike strips, the vehicle went off a cliff and caught fire. Responders rescued both occupants, who sustained minor to moderate injuries. Childers was arrested and faces kidnapping and other felony charges, along with charges related to the pursuit; authorities also said he had pending criminal charges in Texas involving child sexual abuse material. He has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
