Oracle Trucks Gas to Power New Mexico Data Centers
Oracle is considering trucking compressed natural gas to its Project Jupiter AI data center in New Mexico to keep early work moving while a delayed pipeline threatens the schedule. The campus is planned to use up to 2.45 gigawatts of gas-fired fuel cells. Oracle has issued its developer a force majeure notice citing potential power delays after the pipeline's route faced regulatory setbacks that pushed back expected start of service. Oracle has used trucked gas as a temporary solution at other data centers, including a site near Salt Lake City, though delivered gas can cost several times more than pipeline gas. The company has also sought proposals for additional renewable power. How long any trucked supply would run, and whether it fully bridges the gap until pipeline service begins, is not settled in the available record.
