PennDOT has multiple Berks County projects underway, including overnight closures on Route 143, daily closure of Shelbourne Road for sewer work, lane restrictions on Route 61, and scheduled shoulder, widening and brush-cutting work on other roads. In Butler County, East Lancaster Road will close through Oct. 30 for concrete repairs beneath I-79 South, while Evans City Road will have daytime lane closures for bridge and pipe work. Pennsylvania is offering more than $400,000 in environmental education grants, with applications due Nov. 13 and awards supporting projects in 2027–28. Butler County law enforcement agencies and Whole Hearted Ministries will host a hot dog social at Sam’s Club on Oct. 12. In sports, the Penguins and Riverhounds won, while Pitt and Penn State lost; Slippery Rock also earned a lopsided victory, and the Steelers and NASCAR Cup Series were scheduled to compete Sunday.
