Sarasota Pair Arrested in Alleged $361K Elder Scheme
A Sarasota jewelry store owner’s suspicions about two customers making more than $40,000 in purchases led to an investigation and the arrests of Reinier Reinoso and Suyeng Daniels-Lopez. Authorities say the credit card used belonged to a Sarasota man who had died; Daniels-Lopez had previously been assigned to care for him and his wife at an assisted living facility. Investigators allege that, from June 2 to Aug. 25, the card was used in more than 550 transactions totaling about $240,000, while 21 payments totaling nearly $362,000 came from the couple’s bank accounts. The pair face charges including exploitation of an elderly person, grand theft from a person 65 or older, and criminal use of personal identifying information.
